For the annals, under "Irony"

So I, Julie Powell, who has not been on the singles scene since a night at the roller skating ring was considered THE hot date, am being hit up for dating advice. Grub Street called my description of liver as the sexiest food ever "horrifying," which I find oddly gratifying. Glad to have shaken up the douchebags at New York Magazine. Because shaking up douchebags is, always, fun.

Interesting concept for an article, if not a bit incongruous--food writers/dating advice. Not that I think food writers know less about dating, but do they know more?!?! I am curious about your thoughts on this.

Anyway...I love your blog and book...writing in general. I find your story very inspiring.

Years ago, when I was in college, I had a first date with a guy who made me liver and onions for dinner. It was a remarkable leap of faith for him, and I've gotta say, it paid off. I still prefer chicken livers over beef, but I'll always remember that meal!

Julie,

Hello! I just finished your book, and I really enjoyed it. I could hear your voice come through the pages. Someday I would love to chat about Preas.

I know its good for the blood, but I never really considered liver "sexy." This is something new to consider...thanks!

Congrats on all your exciting news! I enjoy your writing.

Hi Julie!

My boyfriend bought me your book a few months ago. He either saw something on tv or read a review somewhere, and it reminded him SO much of me. He was right! I just finished reading it and I really enjoyed it. I cook for a living, and it was really refreshing to read a book about cooking from someone who is not a star chef. You remind me so much of myself, right down to the ticking clock and the Buffy obsession.

My mom always said that I should write a funny book about cooking, so now I have to break the news and tell her that someone beat me to it. THANKS A LOT! ;)

Hi Julie,
I just finished your book last week and decided to make the cheese/potato straws last night. I'll stop short of calling it an unmitigated disaster but they definitely didn't turn out as I expected. Are they supposed to be crispy or are they supposed to be burned on the bottom and soggy on top? As I recover from last night's marathon baking session I'm thinking I will make these again but with different cheese. I used Gruyere and maybe that was a mistake.

Hi Julie,

Let me start by saying CONGRATS on what you have accomplished. I am 28 years old, registered dietitian and just finished culinary school and feel lost in life. I was very inspired by your book. I am not a fan of reading books and NEVER finish a book that I start EXCEPT your book. I loved it and read it in 3 days. Are you currently working on any new books??

OH NO,
another groupie!
Bought Julie/Julia yesterday morning and finished it about 10:30 last night. It goes to a good friend today.
My mother used to kill off liver with onions and bacon, and yeah, I ate it happily...In the 70s, one food that helped me get down to a sylphlike 122(for about 48 hours) was chicken livers, that I used to cook with Sweet N' Low and soy sauce....HEY, it WAS the 70s and I was on Weight Watchers....

Hi Julie,

I just finished reading your book, and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I love to cook and just moved to a tiny apartment with even teenier kitchen, and your book was very inspiring and encouraging!

Thank you!
Amber

Hey,

I just read your book and "discovered" your new website, okay I googled you. I really really loved your book, it's such a sweet portrait of a young urban marriage.

Quick question, can you tell us how you met your husband? I know that your relationship started in high school and that you have compared ,the beginning of, the relationship to a John Hughes movie.

Please share. My mom always said that sharing is caring.
